Apple Pencil first impressions

After a lot of deliberation, I finally convinced myself (and more importantly my wife) to purchase an iPad Pro and along with it, an Apple pencil for Thanksgiving this year. I remembered reading somewhere that to connect the Apple pencil to the iPad, you just need to plug its lightning port into the ipad. And so I did and imediately noticed the bluetooth icon blink on my iPad and soon the Pencil was connected to the iPad.

My first impression of the Apple pencil (course in unison with the iPad Pro) is how smooth the Pencil works as a stylus. Two things that stood out for me on the Apple Pencil, compared to the previous styluses I have tried are how little of a delay there is with the Apple Pencil and secondly how well most of the Apps I tried it, with worked flawlessly in palm refection while taking notes (like Notes Plus and Notability). Other than the forementioned two things, the feel of the Apple pencil on the glass top of iPad Pro felt much better than other styluses. It was neither too mushy nor too clanky in my opinion.

I did feel that the pencil was a little on the heavier side. And the fact that I had to add a Pencil sleeve (from MiniSuit) to make it less slippery (and basically usable), added a little more heft to it. But overall still it was not that bad. I wrote this whole piece (well most of it) on the iPad Pro with the Apple pencil and it was perfectly manageable.

One note about charging the pencil, Apple's claim of charge the Pencil for 15s to get 30 minutes of use truly holds up and with a few minutes of charging I got the Pencil to chanre from 5% to 100%.

In conclusion, my initial impressions of the Apple Pencil and its use with the iPad Pro are very positive!
