MacBook Rumors

It should not be a big shock/surprise that Apple's computers have not been updated for a long time now and if you head over to the MacRumors buying guide, most of its computers fall under a "Don't Buy" now category. The blogosphere has been buzzing with the potential reasons to this seemingly lethargic approach from Apple towards its Mac line, with speculations blaming Intel to even more wilder ones claiming that this is the beginning of the end of the Macs! I will refrain from commenting on this as frankly I have no clue (other than what has already been laid out) to this bizarre no-update situation.

But one thing I would definitely like on my next MacBook is a Touch ID. I am so used to it by now thanks to its seamless integration on the iPhone and iOS and I find it a big pain to type in my password overtime on my Mac. I have been a big fan and proponent of Apple's Touch ID and the recent MacBook rumors (via 9to5mac) make me hopeful of seeing this feature soon on an upcoming MacBook. While this rumor is not a new one, it is encouraging to see it re-emerge now. (hopefully) closer to the launch of the new MacBook models. And I also think the power button is a reasonable place to include a finger print sensor, at least to begin with, till we start seeing touch screen Macs!

A source who has provided reliable information in the past has informed us that the new MacBook Pro models, expected to be launched in the fall, will feature a Touch ID power button as well as the previously-reported OLED touch-sensitive function keys.

Oh and the article also re-iterates the other long standing rumor of the inclusion of a touch sensitive OLED strip relaxing the two of function keys on the new MacBooks. Though this sounds interesting I will reserve my comments on this feature till I actually hear a bit more about this from Apple.
